Tsapournakos Cabernet Franc 2017

Popped and poured; no formal notes. Tsapournakis is, apparently, Cabernet Franc (or some clone of it) that has been grown in Velvento for a long time. Not surprisingly, this had Right Bank Bordeaux sensibilities. There was a mix of red and dark fruits, purple flowers, organic earth, tobacco and some baking spices. There was perhaps just a touch of Brett too. The structure was firm, in the medium+ category and the finish was long. This was lovely with baked lamb in paper. — 8 months ago

Boutari

Santorini Assyrtiko 1989

This is the first vintage of Kallisti oak fermented & barrelled, by Yianni Boutari & Yanni Voyatzi (currently the head Oenologist of Boutari). Slightly oxidative complex nose, with honey, salinity, roasted nuts, touch of waxy nose, with a medium body fascinating & delish... and with a vibrant acidity. Boutaris at least in Naoussa & Santorini has crafted some jewels, that are still alive & kicking even after 20-30 years.
The last one I've tasted with Yiannis Voyatzis 2 years ago at two4eight after decanting it 1 hour after Yannis advice. THANK YOU YIANNI & YANNI!
