Bought this as a birthday wine and paired it with some Chinese food lamb and eggplant. It’s impressive how much energy and life is still in this, with the color still a clear deep rose, with the bricking amber colors only showing under sharp lighting on the medium body. The nose is like meaty blueberries and mashed strawberries, maybe even a little plum, with musty bookcase and black olive notes with maybe a hint of blood orange as well. It blends perfectly with food, with deep ripe jammy blueberries and black berries, more black olives, a hint of tar, driftwood, barbecue burnt ends and tannin that’s still very much gripping at the end of the palate. The flavor lingers for a looong time, with hints of celery salt and a kind of inky black saucy flavor, like a dark soy sauce but more vinegary towards the end. Damn fine wine. — 3 days ago

Excited to check in on this! Harmonious, lengthy, and heady with its perfume. Great memories of tastings with Bobby at my old job, this cuvée named after his son was always a highlight. To me it really focuses on the synergy that old vine Grenache and Mourvèdre can have. There’s a perfect balance of soaked red and black fruits, garrigue, and an exotic spice savoriness that I just love. Structural compliment is there, with the Mourvèdre’s tannic backbone countering the mid-palate weight of the Grenache. As with many 2012s in the Rhône, this has such a great personality, a match of elegance and richness that bring so much joy in the glass. Perfect for turkey day! — 7 years ago

Interesting; this taste like a combination of cherry black licorice liqueur, potpourri, cherry pie, black tea leaves, graphitet wet soil, boysenberry, eucalyptus, almost sweet, no tannins!

I am leaning towards the 2011! Thoughts? 🤷‍♀️🤔
