Light, spicy and so well structured. Fairly austere for its category but will evolve with time. Subtle red fruit is still hidden, leads with mineral backbone and light grippy tannins. Would love to hold for a while — 3 hours ago
Dark, intense. Smells like cotton candy with hidden aromas of dark plum and black berry balanced by late spring flowers, pepper, cloves and vanilla. There is a hint of tannin, however this wine delivers more nuances leaving you completely satisfied and content. — 24 days ago
OKH w Declan, Lawrence, M, Summer and Quinn.
Equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan.
Strong tang on the nose. Damson and leather and cobbler’s glue. Deeply meaty, on the biltong/bresaola/basturma spectrum. Intense, the acidity spiralling through the palate and drawing in a kaleidoscope of flavours: dried tomato, sumac, goji berries, pomegranate molasses, cinnamon, rosehips, hibiscus petals, fresh sweet clementines, cobblestone-market dust. Chalk- and chalk-dust-textured tannins slipping into the taste of cold river pebbles under the fruit and spice. Complex, long, a labyrinth of hidden corners and spaces to explore. Decant for a few hours if you have to drink it now, but wait as long as you can. Like 10 years... (TC) JR17++, 2013, published Sep 2020 — 3 months ago
Very well structured with intense tannins. Deliciously balanced, hidden acidity. It had a characteristic aroma of burnt logs. Among the best Mexican wines I’ve ever had. — 3 months ago
Could not have picked a better wine or a better time to celebrate with my bride. Paired fantastic with our later courses in the 14 course meal at Hidden Omakase. — 7 days ago
This is the wine that got me into natural wines and experimental winemakers who aren't afraid to add some funk! Needless to say, I love this. This is perhaps one of my favorite wines. Its also not too expensive to be a regular staple. My favorite part is showing it to friends, and having them fall for this orange wine! If you're looking for a funky, fun, wine with flavor to have on its own, this is a great one!
Color: sunset orange wine. Well not orange like Fanta but imagine a hay white Chardonnay with orange hues, like a sunset. It's a beautiful color!
Aroma: It looks orange, and it has this orange and mandarin scent. Not like orange blossom, but like you're smelling the sweet bitter rind. Its intoxicating and so refreshing! It had that beautiful natural wine funk.
Taste: So good. It smells amazing and tastes like a slightly subdued version of how it smells. It's like tasting the fruity, bitter rind of a mandarin or orange. It's light to medium body with a flavor punch! It's not light in flavor at all, but it's not heavy, nor sweet. It's great for sipping throughout the day or night. There's some minerality that helps cut through the bitterness. It also has this light genetic sweetness that helps carry this wine to a delightful finish that feels like a hidden popsicle or candy. Not get me wrong, this isn't a sweet wine but it certainly full of surprises and flavors! — a month ago
Ahhh. Been a while since i’ve tasted a Müllen THKF. 2015? Maybe? Nose is ethereal and heavenly. Huge spice and earth. Tons of intense wet dripping minerals. Lovely peach. Vulcanized rubber. Sea breeze. The spice on this is just beyond. Wow this is stunning. So sleek, so refined, that little bit of sugar is just incredible. A kiss of sugar. Perfect balance. Amazing peach clarity here. Extraordinary concentration and density but light as a feather. Brilliant. Hidden structure that suggests decades ahead. Now the nose has lime blossom. And citrus blossom. What a core! This is an incredible wine. — 10 days ago
Tighter & darker than the 2012, more closed & brooding. Turned earth, leather, a bit of tobacco leaf. The dark fruit is hidden beneath, along tin some dried orange peel VA.
On the palate this is tight as well, with finely grained tannins and zippy acidity. But there’s depth here and energy too.
This needs more time or serious decanting, unlike the ‘12.
Need to revisit tomorrow.
Next day: still dark & brooding on the nose - dark cherry, malty notes, wood polish.
On the palate this has lifted - bright cherry, cranberry acidity, a hint of kirsch, some dark cocoa, beef roast, yunnan tea like tannins.
I miss the focus though.
Not bad, still prefer the 2012! — a month ago
Goodness this is SO MUCH better than the no-sulphur version. The fruit is pure and shines through, it’s fresh, small red and black berries, bramble fruit, a fizzy quality to it, a touch of aperol orange peel, velvet-smooth yet fresh palate. Fantastic expression of pure Morgon fruit not hidden by overt funk — 3 months ago
