Rivesaltes Ambré Hors d'Âge 12 Ans Vin Doux Naturel Grenache Blend

NOSE: sherry and brandy-like. Distinct raisin, caramel. Orange (candied), lozenge, varnish, vanilla, baking spices (cinnamon, clove, etc), Rum-like marshmallow. Irish (pot still) whiskey. Laffy taffy.

TASTE: More acidity than expected, over the top raisin. Sulphur (not in a bad way, in a raisin way). Chilled apple cinnamon hibiscus tea with sugar and orange juice. Not my style - but it is made well. 90.

EDIT: someone mentioned roasted nuts and they are right.

Fun little digestif to go with coconut flan over at Fishtag on the UWS. Almond = yum. — 10 years ago

Rivesaltes Vin Doux Naturel Grenache Gris Grenache Blanc 1974

This 43-year-old dessert wine is whiskey dark, even darker, maybe. The nose brings buckets of raisins and brown sugar, with baking spices - it smells like the bottom of an upside-down cake. It's fairly viscous and tastes of sweet spices and raisiny fruit, with an awesome acidity still working. — 7 years ago
