Río de Los Pájaros Reserve Progreso Torrontés 2024

Pisano “Río de los Pájaros” Reserve 2024
Progreso, Uruguay 🇺🇾

Overview
An impressive white out of 100% Torrontés grapes from the Pisano family estate, representing Uruguay’s Atlantic expression of this aromatic varietal. Subtle yet elegant, this wine redefines Torrontés with finesse rather than flamboyance.

Aromas & Flavors
Enticing florals, white jasmine, honeysuckle, and orange blossom, lifted by stone fruit and citrus zest. Notes of lychee and pear gently unfold as it opens in the glass.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a rounded mid-palate. The texture is supple yet vibrant, giving a polished feel to a grape often known for exuberance. The finish is clean, layered, and persistent.

Food Pairings
Superb with ceviche, grilled shrimp, or Southeast Asian dishes with a touch of spice. Also delightful with goat cheese salads or simply enjoyed solo.

Verdict
A sophisticated take on Torrontés, aromatic yet balanced, expressive yet composed. A must-try example of Uruguay’s potential in white wines.Cheers!

Reserve Rio de los Pajaros Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

This is a tannat grape wine, not cabernet sauvignon. I got the 2017 vintage and it was really splendid. Robust and well balanced with notes of wood and spices. — 6 years ago

RPF Reserva Personal de la Familia Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Dark red purple in the glass. Full nose of red currant, roses, and bell pepper. Full bodied palate echoes the nose and delivers juicy black fruit on top. Firm, fuzzy tannins (medium plus) and medium acidity round out this wine that screams for beef. Drink now or in the next five years (by 2023). — 8 years ago

@Ron R , I know you like the premium stuff, but you should give this one a go.

@Byron C Mayes, you should take a closer look at my feed. Most of my wines are $35 or less. Many are below $15. I love finding great juice for less. But, yes, I do love drinking the top shelf stuff, too. Where do you live, Pa? If so, swing by our place early in the new year. Renovations will be finished, including our new cellar. We can have a fun evening. In the meantime, I will certainly taste what I’m sure is a great proposal. I wonder how easy it will be to get, tho. I see all your posts, but rarely see your tastings on sale in my area.

RPF Reserva Personal Progreso Tannat 2021

Inky crimson color, high opacity, tawny rim.

Mushroom, forest, petrichor, cinnamon as a matter olfactory.

Thick, medium to full bodied, light acid

Lots to consider with this varietal.
Green pepper, smoky peanut...like piles of dried leaves.

Torrontés 2017

Star bright, near water clear straw gold. A bit of “stank” on the bosomy nose, that blows off to reveal lemon, citrus rind, and hay. Echoed on the palate with the lemon asserting itself more prominently back palate. Bright (medium) acidity. Medium full body (without obvious malolactic). Baked quince somehow managed to sneak into the finish. I’m enjoying mine with a rich fruit and cheese plate. Enjoy yours with same, or with white flesh fish, poultry with cream sauce, or salad greens with diverse veggies and nuts. — 8 years ago

Axis Mundi Tannat 2002

Pretty deep ruby /garnet core , lightening though not a lot at the edges , very big thick slow legs. Certainly secondary aromas now, ceder , licorice , blackcurrant with a meaty undertone , quite interesting and complex . In the mouth more of the blackcurrant fruit, minty notes also , then the tannins kick in. They are ripe but omnipresent , almost a cocoa powder finish with the drying tannins. The mid palate is slightly hollow and lacks a bit of charm. This is a big wine though the acidity is balancing I'm not sure those tannins will ever be resolved. It doesn't come as 'new world' you would think it could be a left bank Bordeaux , a St Estephe perhaps, though the sweeter tannins and slightly alcoholic kick give away another origin. Coming back to this , I think there will probably be limited upside , the wine appear too hollow to really improve. So drink now and over the next 3 years . — 9 years ago

Cisplatino Tannat-Merlot Blend 2021

Very happy with my wine purchase. Notes of sweet black cherry, it's really delightful, and lightly herby/floral on the nose with a bite of acidity

Initially it's very soft on the palate with undertones of cherry and blackberry. It's followed by a warm, rounded tannic body that continues to carry the cherry throughout. Ends very gently with a more berry/herby aftertaste with notes of unknown herbs

Progreso Tannat 2018

Dark red with near black core. Blackberry, black cranberry, and a hint of birch on the nose. Full bodied palate echoes the nose adding firm tannins (natch) and medium plus acidity surrounded by lush fruit. Enjoy with beef dishes or hearty stews. Great intro to the variety. Drink now through 2028. — 5 years ago

On nose beautiful floral aromas, on palate black cherry, plums, dried herbs, and a bit peppery aftertaste. Thick, rich, meaty, powerful, extremely tannic and therefore somewhat unbalanced. Big full-bodied wine, I like it! — 8 years ago
