Padlock Red Blend 2021

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, cedar, tobacco, coffee, toast, light vanilla, spices, chocolates and peppercorn.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, black plums, black cherries, cedar, licorice, vanilla, spices, chocolates, tobacco, light herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 3 year old Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley is already delicious. Rich and fruit forward.

Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 90 minutes of airtime.

Still young and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 to 10 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves.

A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. Aged in (20% new) French Oak barrels for 15 months. Less than 10,000 bottles made.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Hay Penny Mendocino County Rosé 2023

Pretty color of light peach with a salmon tint.

Fruity nose with red apples, tart strawberries, raspberries, cherries, citrus, minerals, sea salt, and light spices.

Medium-bodied with medium-plus acidity. Crisp and refreshing.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, strawberries, citrus, cherries, lemons, apples, light earth, herbs, and sea salt.

Tangy finish with limes and tart raspberries.

This is a very tasty Rosé from the Sierra Foothills in California.

Nice and easy drinking right out of the bottle. Well-balanced and elegant. Neither tart nor bitter, which I liked.

This Single Vineyard Rosé is good by itself as a sipping wine. Tangy and interesting.

100% Syrah whole-cluster grapes were fermented in stainless steel vats.

12.8% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Really nice California Cab Franc. A little hot, but maintains its spice, verve and herbaceousness. Pretty. — 5 years ago

Rusty Gate Albariño 2019

One of the more acidic Albariños I have had, in a good way. Would have benefited from a good meat & cheese pairing though. — 4 years ago
