Great dessert fruit wine — 2 years ago
Lovely. Deserved its 91 point rating. Dry, rich, complex. Certainly buy again — 4 years ago
At first big tannins with notes of dark fruits and earthy minerals. Then mellowed into a fruit forward punch with silky mouth feel that held up for hours. — 4 years ago
Nice, full flavor, but not that much better than the less expensive syrahs I’ve had lately — 6 years ago
2017 blend. This is really well done. Nice acid subtle tannins and oak. a blend that smacks you in the face with flavor and lingers on the tongue at the finish. — 7 years ago
Time to mix in a wine from our Cellar Door host, Gabrielskloof.
The nose is, lemon curd, lime, white peach, pineapple, some grassy notes, light herbaceous, fruit blossoms, vanilla, honey notes, very soft and understated, beautiful minerals with spring flowers, yellow lilies in mixed greens.
The body is full, round and thick. lemon curd, lime, white peach, pineapple, some grassy notes, light herbaceous, fruit blossoms, vanilla, honey notes, white spice, very soft and understated, beautiful minerals with spring flowers, yellow lilies in mixed greens. High acidity. The rich, lush, elegant finish is delicious and persistent for minutes.

I like FLX rieslings, HJW’s better than most. With that basis, this one is an A-. Structure and flavor is good with mild layering. But of sweet flowery notes (without making the overall wine sweet). — 7 months ago
So lovely!
Very intense taste: special with seasoned cheeses.

A less perfumed vintage than the 200X I remember. Massively floral nose, Sta. Magdalena (Vernatsch) is drunk too rarely. Glorious food wine. — 4 years ago
Potential to go even higher with more age. — 5 years ago

Full-bodied, with plums and sour cherries on the palate. Tannins carry the flavors, but the acid is not forward. — 6 years ago

Great to drink Santa Magdalena again though had hoped for more. Very foresty nose, powerful palate with light flavor intensity (so more power from structure and texture). Fascinating and improved hugely with 2-3 hours air. Probably best with good charcuterie rather than the red meat we fed it. This was a RED wine. — 4 years ago

This is really nice. From a warm climate in NC I am impressed and surprised. Such a step up from 2016/2017. Minerality and green apple with a nice crisp acidic finish. Really well done. — 6 years ago
Enjoyed on September 15, 2019. 2018 vintage — 7 years ago

Redcurrant, cedar, ripe blackberries and stems, potting soil, med + tannin, med acid, long finish. A bit ripe but an excellent wine — a month ago
