Lujan De Cuyo, Mendoza

Bodega Vina 1924 De Angeles

Lujan de Cuyo Gran Malbec 2011

100% Malbec from old vines, single vineyard, aged 30% in new French oak for about 14 months, deep Ruby, aromas of blue and red fruits with floral spice. On the palate, plum, blackberry and raspberry flavors with notes of licorice, vanilla and toast. Medium+ finish, fine tannins ending with a spicy fruit character. — 9 days ago

Finca Bella Vista Perdriel Malbec 2011

A wonderful bouquet of blue and black fruit ranging from cassis and blackberries to blueberries and sandalwood. A touch floral and savory on the palate from violets and thyme to add to to the bushel of fruit, lovely malbec! — 4 days ago

Concreto Mendoza Malbec 2015

1st of 3 Mendoza Malbecs for NYT Wine School. Uco Valley, high altitudes, calcarean soil, fermented in concrete eggs. Medium/deep purple, blackberry and mint on the nose. Blackberry, plum, boysenberry, mint, pepper, and minerals on the palate. Needed a lot of time to open up. Some alcohol burn. It’s good and well made but doesn’t change my overall impression that Malbecs are kind of boring. — 25 days ago

Lujan de Cuyo Malbec 2015

Baked cherries with subtle pepper and spice on the nose. Very nicely balanced on the palate. Might almost think it’s a California Zinfandel. Will get more as soon as possible. Great deal for $35. Loved it. — 9 days ago

This wine is by far the best Mendoza Malbec I’ve ever had! No surprise it’s associated with Paul Hobbs. Not too earthy or herbaceous, great balance on this wine. — 23 days ago
