Bruno Verdi

Cavariola Riserva Red Blend 2010

2 hr decant, then drank over 2 hours. Complex aromas of dense dark red fruits and menthol and tobacco that mingled evolved over 2-3 hours then started to evolve into overripe plum, candied black licorice and cedar. Palette is bold. In the early hours it was intensely Oakes but over time it opens up into more stewed overripe old sweet fruits umm like tasty fermented fruit? Some cacao and leather. Menthol on the finish. Still modestly tannic in a gravely way but it’s in balance, but does work better with food. — a year ago

Jacques Copinet

Copinet Monsieur Leonard 2008

A pale light yellow in the glass. Delicate small bubbles and nice creaminess. The nose is incredibly fresh with a touch of menthol complemented by pineapple. Nuttiness and baked bread along with pears. Tasted in the Grassl 1855 which showed more autolytic aromas after given time and air.

Another stellar champagne from the 2008 vintage. Blanc de blancs from Montgenost disgorged in 2019. Lowish dosage of 5 g/l but it doesn’t bring searing acidity, instead it delivers intensity, purity, and drama.

Pleasing and pleasant, there’s quite a bit to like here. The palate is focused and harmonious with complexity. Lively and intense on the tongue with plenty of citrus that recedes only for brioche bread to take the lead. Minerality on the long finish. Revisit this a few more years down the road and you’ll be happy.

Domaine Saint André de Figuière

Atmosphère Côtes de Provence Extra Brut Rosé 2014

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor David Newman is leading a live-to-picture performance of Leonard Bernstein’s score for “West Side Story”, originally directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
For live-to-picture productions, the orchestra performs the entire movie score in real time as the film unspools. (Vocals, dialogue and effects are isolated from the original music track.) The BSO installed very fancy and large LED screens on the perimeter of the Shed facing the Lawn, amazing!

Very nice light Salmon color. Nice fruit, 50% Cinsault & 50% Grenache. Very tasty, much better than their still rosé.
