In a Guatemala City suburb (Paseo Calaya) for our last two nights in Guatemala. Should have saved this wine for a few more years, but still enjoyed. Had some wonderful Snake River Ranch Wagyu. — 6 years ago

Touring Guatemala with some of our favorite Napa red wines. In Antigua. This was my last bottle of 2008. — 6 years ago
Dark tawny brown in colour. Strong molasses/cane earthy smoky aromas. A brilliant palate of Caramel, molasses - a fluid mellifluous palate, so smooth it doesn’t show its 47.5% ABV. Aged in Double charred Oak Barrels. A marvellous Rum from Guatemala - love the raffia basket weave around the base of the bottle - great presentation. — 5 years ago
Enjoying some great Napa wines at Lake Atitlan Guatemala while remembering our winery visit. Enjoyed too early. — 6 years ago

Probably my favourite rum - it’s from Guatemala. They use virgin sugar cane honey - the first pressing of the sugar cane, unlike most rums which use molasses. As I’ve mentioned in previous notes on Delectable, aromas of burnt caramel, tar and molasses. Aged in a Solera system at 2300 metres above sea level. Firstly in American Oak Barrels then in charred American Oak barrels, then in barrels that previously aged Sherry and finally in barrels that previously aged Pedro Ximinez. Very smooth and dangerously drinkable. — 2 days ago
