De Dues

Hermann J. Wiemer

Finger Lakes Dry Gewürztraminer 2017

Nose has amazing Gardenia aromas, sweet honey, freshly milled white pepper and cold wax.

Palate has over-ripe cantaloupe, honey drizzle on green melon, (light) lemon/orange zest and juiced Clementine (faint). Light on the acidity and a bit long on the finish. Decanted 60m. (92-93 points, very nice)

Spectacular pairing to fried eggs (backyard egg factory paying its dues even in the cold of winter) over toasted couscous, softened garlic & red onion, fresh green onion and the star of the dish za'atar (I could eat this on cereal!).

Wines of Substance, LLC

Cs Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon

Economical on fruit in the front end but very well balanced wine with the backend that pays its dues. Front end with tight hi lights of raspberry, blueberry sifting into leather tannins with vanilla pipe smoke true lengthy eucalyptus finish. But not just menthol heat it simmers in the back of your throat.
Good back bone on this wine BUY and drink or cellar🍷

Savoy Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

Medium-gold w/flecks of green in the glass. Nice weight in the mouth, ripe pear and hints of toast on the nose. Balanced acid/fruit with no noticeable heat or bitterness. Great food accompaniment. Stylish and focused... someone made some nice choices in the vineyard and winery. I don’t think these guys get their just dues. — 5 years ago

Nahe Dry Riesling 2019

“Sleep is the most moronic fraternity in the world, with the heaviest dues and the crudest rituals... I simply cannot get used to the nightly betrayal of reason, humanity, genius.” V. Nabokov, speak, memory.
Night precedes day. We go to sleep first thing around midnight of a new day, wake up 7 to 8 hours into it. We don’t go to sleep at the end of a long day tired. We start the day by going to sleep. We start by dreaming by going into the subconscious. A lot of work gets done in the mystery of darkness by the time we wake half way through it all.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Richebourg Pinot Noir 1996

Got the privilege of checking the DRC box last night. Grateful beyond words for the people in this industry that are so willing to share knowledge and juice of the world. Liquid motivation to keep paying my dues and giving my heart and hands to the winemaking craft. Incredible to dive into this wine and really get a sense for how dynamic and timeless these wines truly are. Marathon runners of the Pinot Noir world. Burgundian classic. — 9 years ago
