Last dinner in France, last wine to taste. This wine was given to me by someone but I don't remember who. It was in my father's cellar with a handwritten note "Daniel's wine".
There is tar, cedar, black currant and blackberry, cocoa and mocha on the nose. The palate is very well made with a great acid drive, some nice width, a beautiful black currant and blackberry fruit shining through and through, a soft mouthfeel giving way to some already nicely integrated tannins in the rear, living a grain and powering up some savory tastes, almost meaty, and a nice finish that goes on for a while. This travel exclusive Bottled In Bond 100 proof JD has a bright cherry and vanilla flavor on the nose and the tongue. Great mouth feel with not a lot of spice to over power your palate. Picked this up in Japan. — 4 years ago

Not to be harsh, but this was the underperformer of the blind tasting. As said in my previous notes, I reckon I would have gravitated towards this wine if it wasn't done blind. It wasn't a bad wine - I just expected a little bit more.

Nose was very closed. Just smoky and wild. Could have guessed this correctly if producer was an option I felt, since it had the deepest cut of the lot (pretty typical of Daniel's wines). To me the palate was a little less ripe - mix of citrus and stonefruits, sappy, laser precision. Good driven finish, but felt a little less complex than the rest at the moment. I liked this wine for its energy (the most of the lot), but it could have given more. Overall, the wines in this bracket were all showing very well - all wines I would buy for my cellar if I had more space. — 7 years ago
