Chateau Latour Bellona

Château Latour

Les Forts de Latour Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Classic Bordeaux on the nose with cedar and black cherry. Nice oak and tar with integrated tannins that remain but are nearing the downward slope in the cellar. Less intense than the Grand Vin but a nice Latour nonetheless. — 7 days ago

There are worse ways to start a Saturday then tasting & talking wine with Tor Kenward & Andy Beskstoffer having the 1980 BV George Latour Private Reserve & multiple vintages of Tor. Wine 94 technically but age & style 96. The overall experience is a 10.

These bottles came from his cellar so they are perfect. So silky smooth elegant. Beautifully ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, plum, dark cherries, understated baking spices, fresh & used tobacco, sandalwood, raspberry, limestone powder, fine, dark spice, bright, withering dark & red florals, excellent acidity, sheer, balance, elegance and perfect finish that lasts a full minute.

Andy Beckstoffer sold fruit for $150 a ton in the late 1970’s, early 80’s. Today, $50,000 plus a ton and a percentage of the producers bottle price.

I've not tasted the '80 BV GdL, you're a lucky man.

Private Reserve Georges de Latour Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 1984

A slightly off hint of butterscotch on the nose. Dense dark fruit with stone and poised. A shame about the nose as the fruit is great — a month ago

Domaine de Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem Syrah Blend

NOSE: mild, cooked fruit, a little carob. Inoffensive but not especially inviting.

TASTE: cooking spices, chicory, ash, a little bitter —unsweetened minerally dark chocolate - red fruit barely present and dried. Very balanced and elegant. This is going to kill with the herb roasted chicken I’m about to eat. 91.

Man is this good. I guess this is Latours 3rd wine. Ripe plums, mint and still a little green. — a month ago
