Bordeaux Superieur Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Selected by Jonathan Maltus (Le Dôme, Teyssier and other Saint-Emilions + World's End in Napa Valley), this is a Merlot-driven Bordeaux Supérieur, in a lightly oaked blend with Cabernet Franc. Red cherries and strawberry jam with just a hint of oak. Juicy and ripe sweet red fruit, soft tannin and good length. Nice value at 11 euro. Has an old-world-meets-new-world feel about it. Who said Bordeaux isn't sexy? Abv. 13%. Well done again Mr. Maltus! — 4 years ago

Money Talks

World's End Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Greg Ballington
9.1

Bright ruby red with violet core. Insanely tight on the nose. A lot of dust and chalk with a few hints of dark fruits and black cherries. Tight on the palate as well, initially started with light cassis. Then opened up slightly with red cherries carrying through the finish. Moderate plus tannins (6.5/10) with a moderate to long, lingering, slightly dry finish. Grips the front of the palate. and down the sides. Moderate body with good acidity. Definitely needs to be left alone for two years. Jonathan Maltus (winemaker) is definitely completing what he set out to do, which was make old world wines in the new world. Drink from 2018 till 2025 +. One fun fact about all of the wines in Maltus' World's End line up are named after hard rock songs, such as 'Money Talks' by ACDC. — 8 years ago

World's End

If Six Was Nine Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

2009 vintage. Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with a little bit of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Serious juice from serious vineyards in Napa Valley (the lower slopes of Coombsville, Sugarloaf Mountain and Circle S, the latter one of the highest parts in the Napa Valley). Cassis, cedarwood, licorice and lead pencil, reminiscent of Pauillac. Concentrated, ripe black fruit, but not jammy. Powerful tannic structure and good acidity. Long finish with licorice and a distinctive minerality. Maltus obviously doesn't go for the easy commercial jammy style. Incredible Napa Valley value at 30 euro! Perfectly integrated 14,8% abv. — 6 years ago

Reserve Against The Wind Cabernet Franc 2013

World's End is the Napa project of Jonathan Maltus. He's better known for his work on the Right Bank of Bordeaux as the owner of Château Teyssier and creating Le Dôme. The 2013 Against The Wind was sufficiently beaten up by more than one critic, but I was still surprised when I fished it out of a discount bin for $9... he's made a wine that Robert Parker scored 100... I think I'll take the risk... Juicy plum with blueberry are the focus, followed by some Hershey's cocoa powder and roasted red pepper, with some tertiary molasses and dried violet. — 7 years ago

Le Lastau Saint-Émilion Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

So impressed with this wine. Reasonable but taste expensive. Great aroma taste of bitter cherry mixed with ripe sweet grapes. Maybe dark chocolate. Try it — 8 years ago

Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2015 Pezat is a gorgeous entry-level wine from Jonathan Maltus. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit are front and center in this succulent, inviting Bordeaux Supérieur. Drink it over the next few years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2018) — 6 years ago
