Marie Courtin

Efflorescence Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Noir 2018

Marie-Courtin was established in 2005 by Dominique Moreau, who named her winery after her grandmother – a “woman of the earth” – surely an inspiration behind Dominique’s unwavering commitment to organic & biodynamic viticulture. She’s among the few (but growing # of) producers pursuing organic / biodynamic practices in Champagne, a notoriously challenging climate for mildew & rot.

Champagne Marie-Courtin is a Grower producer located in the village of Polisot in the Barséquannais, specializing in compelling terroir expressions, using a low intervention approach in the winery, with wild ferments and minimal (if any) dosage…

This wine fermented and aged in used (neutral) French barriques, allowing delicate oxygen influences w/out the oaky flavors. It spent 36 months aging sur lie (on the lees).

The result is a precise and chiseled wine with toasty notes next to layers of blossom, lemon peel, bright raspberry, strawberry, peach skin, kumquat, ripe pear, oyster shell, saline, blanched almond, bread dough, pastry, and baked red apple.

This wine represents a singular expression of a particular year, vineyard, and variety – it offers a sensory glimpse into a specific place and time. A magical & lovely wine. Cheers!

Résonance Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Noir 2016

The nose on this is gorgeous. There’s a lightness of bread, honeysuckle, and rain. Then I also get a red wine like smell of cherries and currants. Palate is impressive and leans more toward oak and red wine. Forest for sure, really interesting fruit with apple, hint of tropical fruit, some cantaloupe, sourdough toast, and cherries jubilee. I’m not sure I’m doing it justice in describing. It just keeps evolving. Seems to punch well over its weight class. Hope I can secure another bottle or two. Indulgence Extra Brut Rosé Champagne

This tastes like a sparkling claret if there’s one out there. Full bodied, heavy on the palate with strong notes of raspberry and ripe strawberries. Love this diversity on recolectant manipulant champagnes. — 7 months ago

Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Champagne Chardonnay

1st Jan 2023. Disgorged June 2021. Elegant, precise.

60% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Blanc, 5% Arbanne. Fermented and aged in amphora using native yeasts. Zero dosage. Extremely limited production.
“The NV (2018) Blanc de Blancs Amphora is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Arbanne done in amphora. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing, but what I like most about the 2018 its energy and cut. Readers will find a Champagne of tremendous distinction. Or is it wine? The 2018 straddles this line beautifully, framed by bright acids that lend vibrancy to lemon peel, mint, white flower and grassy notes that build in the glass. This is one of the most interesting and compelling Champagnes I have tasted in some time. Bottled with no dosage.” AG 96

Allégeance Extra Brut Champagne Pinot Noir Rosé

Vinous style with some core power. There’s also delicacy and fineness you might not typically associate with the Cotes De Bar. A wine with multiple personalities. Very rad. — 4 years ago
