Castello dei Rampolla

Sammarco Toscana SuperTuscan Blend 2011

Our princess her birthday. Time for the yearly 2011. This Sammarco was soo good. A bit of VA in the nose, sweet start and than the acidity kicks in. Very balanced. And quite some time ahead. Wow! — 4 days ago

Castello dei Rampolla

Vigna d'Alceo Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot Blend 2009

Medium ruby color with slightly garnet rim. Dark berry and plum on the nose. Medium acid, tannins are softened but still present. It benefited from decanting. Tastes like dark fruit, dark chocolate, graphite, reminded me of some Bordeaux bottles. — 25 days ago

A vigorous young Chianti Classico. Intense and a little peppery from the alcohol. Nice accompaniment to pasta with a rich meat sauce. — a day ago

Castello di Ama

Vigneto San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

See previous Note. Old plummie, red cherry notes. Barb said dusty and pine needles. A cooler vintage. I said red cherries and freshly tilled loam. As Galloni said “In 2010 Ama did not bottle their single vineyard selections. All the best fruit went here.” Tasting more the quality of a Brunello than a Chianti Classico. No. 6 in Wine Spectators Top 100 for 2015. — 24 days ago

In 2015, the WS Top 100 meant something. To look at it the last few years it is puzzling. I recently read their website for the criteria they use to come up with their top 100 and all I could do after reading the criteria and seeing their 2024 selections is scratch my head.

@Bob McDonald first vintage of Gran Selezione ever, definitely a good start with the 2010. Great pull!
