Poggio delle Baccanti

Gragnano Aglianico Piedirosso 2017

Chewy, purple fruits and a bit of natural fizz. Best served chilled for sure. I'd drink this with a Napolitano pizza and be quite happy. — 2 days ago

Poggio Salvi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

This took quite a bit of air to open up. Nose features warm sandstone scents, along with plummy dark cherry fruit. Broad but somewhat austere in the mouth. Good acids and drying tannins. Better with my grilled hangar steak than on it own.

UPDATE: on night 2, it seemed fresher and some fresh cherry fruit showed through. The drying, chalky tannins are still there, however. Together, this suggest that this wine will benefit from at least 2 more years of cellaring. Upping rating to 9.1.

Santo Stefano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2009

Bright ripe cherries, melted red cough drops, tobacco, vanilla, cinnamon, high viscosity and alcohol. Light in the mouth with a surprising bit of tannins. Got better after a couple of days! Also- loved the beautiful brown tinted bottle, very unique. — 4 days ago
