lu veru piaciri Nerello Mascalese 2020

This vintage is 100% Nerello Mascalese. Clear garnet red. Inviting nose of baked cherry and pomegranate. Medium bodied palate echoes the nose adding terra cotta, cherry marzipan, dusty (medium plus) tannins, and bright, food-friendly medium acidity. Finish is moderate but continues the palate which, along with the acidity and tannins, makes this the consummate food wine. Al-Cantara's higher end NM is for hearty dishes. This one is a red that can be paired with seafood (a la Frappatto) and lighter fare. And it shines in that space. I had salmon -stuffed tortellini with vodka sauce. Drink now through 2026. — 4 months ago

Luci Luci Etna Bianco Carricante 2020

Star bright beige gold. Green apple and citrus rind on the abundant nose. Confirmed with a bit of white pepper and stone on the medium palate. Chock full o' tannin-esque minerals that stand firm through the finish even as the wine warms. In other words, a Classic volcanic white that's a perfect match for seafood and Mediterranean fare. Best now, but drink through 2028. — 10 months ago

Occhi Di Ciumi Etna Blanco DOC

This is not IGT. It’s Etna Blanco DOC. Burnished green gold with straw gold glints. Ripe apricot and spice on the abundantly inviting nose. Medium full palate yields dried apricots, baked quince, spice, and yellow flowers wrapped around a firm backbone of almost tingly acidity. Finish is lengthy and continues the palate. Southern Italy wins the white war again with this highly aromatic white from Mt. Etna. Perfect match for your take out pasta carbonara or any higher end Mediterranean fare. Drink now through 2026. — a year ago

Al-Cantara Terre Siciliane Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Amazing Cab from Sicily. Who would have thought. Bursting in dark red, blue fruit flavor, very balanced with the plenty of fruit tannins, earthy minerals and a nice spice. This is such an interesting winery that I got to visit sometime. Growing grapes in the slopes of Mnt Edna. — 4 years ago
