Nice red color with an intense berry flavor — 4 years ago
Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.
It was my first time trying Moone-Tsai wines aside from their widely distributed Napa Valley Cab, so some of these were totally brand new to me. Melka is the winemaker.
Much more rich and dark fruited compared to the Howell Mountain. This is a blend of vineyards from Pritchard Hill, Caldwell (Coombsville) and St Helena. Very Pritchard Hill like on the nose with herbal crunch, savory graphite and cassis, oozing blackberries and cherry liqueur. Once on the palate, it channels its Coombsville fruit displaying a touch of licorice, candied blue and black fruits, baking spices and espresso. Big, but slightly more approachable than the Howell. — 6 years ago
Bottle that looks like Aunt Jemima. Velvety, beautiful finish. Tastes better than Schwetty balls that choke me like sword-swallowing circus performers. Happiness follows with every swallow. — 8 years ago
This is drinking extremely well after just a pop and pour. You can see on the side of the bottle that it’s thrown a ton of sediment. Still easily in the drinking window. Underrated winery. — 8 years ago

Excellent classic cab — 4 months ago
Great Pinot Noir. One of the best I’ve had recently. Great nose, good body, long smooth finish. Everything I look for in a Pinot Noir — a year ago
So much more sweet fruited on the nose than the Caldwell. Partially due to age. Little bit of toasted oak with blackberries and cassis on the nose. Licorice, ripe raspberries and clove on the finish. Very Farella-like, as it should be. Years ahead of it. Nice pull @Mark Flesher . — 8 years ago
Love this Malbec. — 8 years ago
This is the 2019 Caldwell Vineyard Syrah from Jason Moore’s top line entitled Modus Operandi. Second time I’ve reviewed it- to the year, almost to the dot, so this should be interesting. After a breathe and a thorough decant, it unfolds as the minutes go by. The nose, which even just opened was expressive, is now blooming from the glass with hints of violets but bacon-fat is right on its heals. And dummy me pouring it a little too cold to start likely muting some of those deeper notes… but as it warms those fleshy notes and rich textures are coming to the fore. — 6 months ago
was the star of a recent testing of Carmenere wines. my first experience with this varietal on its own. quite pleasant -no flaws - seamless in structure fruits and tannins doing their job — 5 years ago
A crunchy, maple soaked blackberry, alongside secondary notes of hoisin sauce and cherry tobacco on the nose. Gorgeous mid-palate. So smooth and integrated. Palate is full of ripe, fresh squeezed blackberries, little bit of tar, pipe tobacco and and finish that brings about some red tart fruit. Really nice wine @Keith Fisher . — 8 years ago

Of course it was good but a bit disappointing considering the reputation. Just a slight amount of tannins still detectable so I think it was about ready to drink. — 4 months ago
