An oldie left from Gordon’s and the little Bordeaux is drinking so nicely, even on day three in Eto and the earthiness of day one is not as prominent but the ripe fruit mineral nose and balance and complex palate the same. Deal! Last one! — 2 years ago
Figured might be heading downhill but it’s drinking very nicely for my taste. That complexity only possibly with bottle age. Went well with different dishes over several days in Eto. — 3 years ago
Grafs family minus K visit (Ho left) mom BD 5/7/22. Cab lineup through the decades. Shockingly alive and drinking well! It actually went great with grilled salmon! Such was its lack of tannins and fruit and body. PS it did fade over the next three days in Eto (Hsing tasted (5/9) but remained an excellent partner for food. — 4 years ago
Keep drinking through the stash, must be a couple more 2002s still. This one again had that metallic note from the time of purchase but muted and with a robust dark fruited profile. Still quite balanced. Two days later from Eto that original profile more prominent at Amahs CNY dinner 2/1/22. Dropping a point — 4 years ago
New to me and surprisingly good balanced aged red from Portugal. Still fresh and tingly texture after ripe black and red fruits on nose and good finish. Drank well for four days in Eto. — 5 years ago
Very lovely. Well balanced. Tannins were nice and soft. Warm red fruits came off with some airtime and this was very pleasant to drink. Little rougher second day from ETO but still pretty good. Glad I waited on this bottle — 5 years ago
Procured via auction. Have had bad bottles before but cork looked solid (used Durand to take no chances).
This bottle was excellent and the wine developed nicely in the glass over about 1.5 hours. Kept in my ETO.
Nice black and dark fruits with a little muscle. Oak integrated and not overpowering.
Lovely pairing with steak. — a year ago
Unimpressive when first opened, closed off, thought perhaps over the hill, but came alive after a day plus in Eto. Went well with different foods from chicken nan to spicy meats. — 3 years ago
Really opened up after two days in eto! Stony white fruit minerals leading into firm chewy texture and long finish laced with acids and bite. Upping by two to 9.1. Only bottle unfortunately. — 4 years ago
First night lees impressive than two days later in Eto. First blush of purple color and bright red fruits, sour cherries, more new world than old but later it flipped. Excellent with grilled meats in either case. Interesting. — 4 years ago
Only bottle? Golden color and some oxidative notes but hasn’t crashed yet. Very ripe white fruits do come through and texture still firm and even a bit creamy with acids carrying through finish. Again with these maybe just over the hill oldies paired well with food (fish, leuffer squash and everything in pot soup). Held up well over next few days in Eto. Had three from GL for then splurge of 40/b — 5 years ago
Another surprise of an unknown old style Cab. Might be first vintage of Jay Corley Monticello Vineyard in Oakville Knoll? Said to go for lighter style “dinner wine” which is on the mark. 12.5% ABV! Old school or what? Not just alive but lively and lovely with all that ripe prune fruits and earth and leather. held up very well in Eto over four days. Upping to 9.2. PS yes it is the first vintage of Monticello Vineyard and available as library wine on their site for $210! Shout out to Ira Schwartz's metaphor in his post on a '70 Mayacaymus Zin as pure joy of dancing with ones grandma, this one is like dancing with grandmother who trained as a ballerina and still has the style and posture! Amazement now laced with Heh heh value find satisfaction. AA14. — 5 years ago
A first and a surprise! Late fall flowers and minerals acidic balanced tingling palate and good finish. Didn’t do quite as well the next two days in Eto as aromas faded. — 2 years ago
Beste prosecco van 2024 tot nu toe — 2 years ago
Mistake! Last of two, first one opened in 2019 and meant to keep this one aging but forgot! It’s drinking beautifully, complex profile with fruits and stones singing together and am enticing texture that makes me sip more without the seafood. Too bad, no more to grow old! From JR Half Voignier and half Grecetto! Wow, got even better after days in Eto, More evolved, complex, lingering finish. Too bad it’s gone. Indeed quite a wine for aging. — 3 years ago
The best overall older Sauternes yet in pairing with Wilson’s foie gras (this one is unusually mild and neutral). Also did well with the shrimp boil which was quite spicy. Lasted well for several days in Eto. Yum. Color was noticeably lighter than expected, including against younger vintages of this class. — 4 years ago
Very closed in the first hour or so through dinner but then opened up nicely. Red berries earth forest floor flowed into an acidic but lively and balanced palate and biting finish. Will see over next several days in Eto. Perhaps still need more time but already an excellent pairing for the ribs. 12.5 ABV. — 5 years ago
Very nice balanced older Cab Franc. Very mature rather faded fruit laced with earthy notes that opened up. Good acidic texture and finish. Excellent with Amahs ribs and veggies. GL flash buy at 35. Next day even better after Eto and upping a point. Lively and fresh. 12ABV and biodynamic rescue of beaten down Anjou estate by Leflaive of Burgundy fame. Should have one left for a bit more aging — 5 years ago
Terrific old style Zin still lively and balanced earthiness and raisiny berries with long finish. Still great on day three in Eto. More prominent earthy and woody cigar notes in empty glass. Richer than Rossi — 5 years ago
