The '11 Bodegas Barco de Piedra Tempranillo is proof that good wine doesn't have to be expensive. Bluish purple in color, this medium-bodied wine emits a bouquet of black fruits, cherries, licorice, pepper and leather. It's delightfully creamy, velvety and complex. Very impressive for the money. — 13 years ago
Bodegas Septien Del Barco de Melquiades 2022, Arlanza, Spain
Deep ruby in color with a reddish/ purplish rim.
Strong nose and a little stinky, with black fruits, barnyard, tobacco leaf, herbs, vegetables, light oak, dark chocolates and coffee.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cherries, light oak, coffee, tobacco leaf, light vegetables, spices, herbs, earth, dark chocolates and peppercorn.
Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very tasty Tempranillo from Arlanza, Spain. Nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and fruit forward. Tangy and interesting.
Still young, but already showing nice complexity. Feels like a Northern Rhône Syrah, especially on the nose. Interesting stuff.
Needs 3 hours in the decanter to open up, and even better the next day.
This Single Vineyard Tempranillo will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.
A good food wine. Spicy and entertaining.
A blend of Tempranillo grapes with a touch of Albillo Mayor, and Malvasia. Aged in large French oak barrels for 11 months. A tiny production of only 350 bottles.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
