Impressive stuff - varietal PV w/inky opaque color, effusive nose of all manner of black fruit, cassis w/strong herbaceous notes along w/tobacco & mocha. Full bodied, lush viscous on palate, super ripe juicy blackberry & boysenberry, cassis, mineraly-iron streak, very interesting. Believe this has many more years ahead. Quite polished & cohesive — 3 months ago
Actually this is a Red Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (36%), Cabernet Franc (28%), Merlot (28%), and Petit Verdot (7%). My wife, son and I stumbled on this vineyard on the way back from the Shenandoah Mountains. It’s a little gem hidden in Rappahannock, Virginia following the Italian family wine-making traditions. — 6 months ago
One of the most COMPLETE single estate, 100% PV in my cellar. Checks all the boxes: taste, texture, tannin, and tenacity ;) Nice work, Katie! Yes, your PV is as good or better than Jim’s. I know you were aiming for that target. — a year ago
First take: it’s a bit muddled and flabby….lacking crisp structure. It is young so I will test on day two. Day 2.5: impressively, air has brought this one to life! Clarity and articulation are now present. The character profile is still medium+ weighted fresh red/black cherry with a delicate green herby frame. What improved - the focus and clarity of the acidity. It broadened, thus mouthfeel improved. — 2 months ago
Nok lidt vel meget træ, men god frugt og fine noter af homidor, svampe, lidt hest og skovbund — 3 months ago
Signature smells of bright and fresh raspberry, cherry, and plum, with bramble, notes of bell pepper and mint, hints of baker's vanilla, cinnamon and clove, and faint whiffs of warm tires and fallen wet leaves. On the palate fresh but richer red fruit of cherry, cranberry, and raspberry, hints of asparagus, with a medium mouthfeel and medium-length finish. The 13.8% alcohol gave the body some weight but was a tad strong for the bright red fruit profile. Overall this is a balanced Loire-style Cab Franc. Went great with my portobello caps with homemade porcini-morel gravy; food and wine really brought out the spice flavors of each other. — 7 months ago
Note: this rating is for this vintage when in its prime (secondary development)… as I pull this from the cellar it is clearly in 25% decline from tertiary development. as I have come to learn, very hot, high sugar vintages do not work long-term for 100% PV bottlings. There simply is not enough tannin and acid to contend with the higher alcohol/sugars for long term aging - so 2010’s are out of runway at about 8ish years. I pushed this one to 11… But that is the purpose of my experimentation in East Coast wine aging. So what did it taste like: Mulberries and leather with sweet prune finish - quite similar to an UNFORTIFIED PORT. served admiral Voy with our fatty brisket as a stand in for California Zinfandel. All was not lost ;) — 3 months ago
Arbe Garbe Sonoma County Proprietary White 2019: Medium-body. Low acidity. Elegant balance with expressive floral notes & layered fruity flavors. White peach. Citrus. Guava. Pear. Honey. Crisp & clean finish. This was a great recommendation of a beautiful & interesting white blend of 50% Malvasia Bianca, 30% Tocai Friulano & 20% Chardonnay. Not common to the New World but these varieties are common in the Friuli region of Northern Italy. Glad to see them grown locally & expressing the local terroir of Sonoma County! Great day to all!
