Humility Merlot Blend 2010

So hard to believe that this was built on two year leaf grapes. Talk about a great rookie season! Mostly cab sauv , this did indeed punch far beyond it’s expected weight class. Complex yet fairly linear and sequential, this has the dna of the championship level big boy (glen manor/rdv/linden). While only a 375 mL bottle, it had aged remarkably well and would be worth another library investment if available ;) — 2 years ago

Effingham

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Effingham Manor Cellars Effingham Reserve 2019, Virginia

Happy
#nationalwineday. Celebrating with a unique one from Virginia.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

On the nose black currants, oak, plums, black cherries, Indian spices, licorice, tobacco leaf, black tea, herbs, dark chocolates, eucalyptus and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, currants, oak, light vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, peppercorn, tobacco leaf and herbs.

Soft finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very interesting red blend from Virginia. Showing nice complexity already, with a soft mouthfeel. Tasty and enjoyable.

Smells very much like a young Bordeaux right out of the bottle.

Needs an hour in a decanter to open up.

Once it opens up, the palate catches up to the Bordeaux Style as well.

Still young and needs a few years to mature. Showing good potential, and would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

At this point, the Merlot is more dominant than the rest. Feels like a right bank Bordeaux. Spicy, tangy and entertaining.

Good by itself or with food. Really enjoyed the nose once it opened up. A very nice sipping wine.

A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 19% Tannant, 15% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 14 months in American oak barrels.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Hodder Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

So not much has changed in 3 yrs since first trying this in the tasting room. The profile is lean and linear. 69 CS 16 Merlot and the rest PV. This clearly the weakest build of Jeff’s run of left bank builds. The 2014 was classic, so not huge numbers for the CS. THE TEXTURE IS LOVELY though. ;) 90+ for sure, keeping the streak ALIVE!! — 8 months ago

Red Blend 2011

Remarkable how well this held up for nine years… 50% cab sauv, 36% PV, 14% merlot....Smart blending considering the wet end to the vintage – as much acid as possible (this was the second label wine from old vines… Before T.Ruth was born the next year). Classic Glen Manor concentration of flavor, just in a lighter weight package. This was my last bottle and I knew it was on the downward slope. Glad we enjoyed it when we did Dash it was a testament to Jeff white quality in the vineyard and deft touch in the cellar :) — 2 years ago

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2018

Stags Leap Manor, as it was called in the 1920s, was known as one of the prominent country retreats in the Napa Valley at a time when resort and spa business was big. Pale lemon stone fruit and citrus aromas and toasty yeasty notes. On the palate melon, pineapple and pear, fresh & crisp with notes of oak, a bit creamy. Long finish with wet stone and mineral character, well balanced, stays crisp on ending. Nice! — 2 years ago
