Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2014

Actually slightly disappointing for a (Roulot) '14. Drank alongside a '14 Wittmann Aulerde GG, and paired with a pasta with morel and green onion (light) cream sauce. Riper nose than I expected on a '14, with very, very soft noble reduction, but good minerality and lemon. In a very good place, but the Aulerde was the better pairing with the food by a longshot. Good density, but slightly thin on the finish. I think I preferred the '13 edition to this one... — 7 days ago

Aulerde Großes Gewächs Riesling 2014

Oops, forgot I had this in April. Drank alongside a '14 Roulot Bourg Blanc, and paired with a pasta with morel and scallion (light) cream sauce, with some seared scallops on top. This was far and away the better pairing, but it was fun to contrast the two '14s. With the cream sauce, the perceived acidity was perfect for my palate, so an excellent showing, really showcasing the minerality and citrus. Yeah it's Tuesday, but many pandemic-related restrictions were eased today here in cali. What that actually means remains to be seen... — 7 days ago

Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir Meursault Chardonnay 2005

2021/4/3 with steamed rock oysters and tagliatelle with baby scallops. This poured a deep yellow, and opened with rather nutty aromas. The inevitable reaction is to agonize over premature oxidation. But, with air and time, youth crept back - as it so often does. There were pungent minerals, buttery pastries and creamy stone fruits. And after all, this is a villages wine from 2005. In the end, I didn’t think was “prematurely” oxidized and enjoyed it a lot. As usual, oxidation (or maturity) is on a continuum. And at this point, I’d rather focus on actually savoring every last bottle of Burgundy I have from the great villages and producers, because the way things have gone with prices, I don’t know how many more I’ll get to enjoy. — 2 months ago
