Ararat Valley Haghtanak 2016

My first Armenian wine. Made with Haghtanak grape, a Soviet-era hybrid between Armenian varietals and Georgian Saperavi. From vineyards in the Ararat Valley, 35 km west of Yerevan. Fermented in steel tanks and aged 7 months in Caucasian oak barrels. Dark ruby/purple color. Dark fruit, vanilla and oak on the nose. Some herbal notes. Full-bodied, big, quite bold and round on the palate. Pomegranate flavors. Tannic. Good value — 3 months ago

Saperavi Qvevri 2019

This excellent Saperavi Qvevri is from the Alazani Estate Winery, not the Alazani Winery. It hit all the notes that a Saperavi should hit. It began with dried cherry, and then transitioned to that unusual bite that Qvevri wines have, ending with smooth tannins. Classic Georgia, tasty and different from wine anywhere else. Perfect with one of those unpronounceable Georgian lamb stews or Persian food. Decant for 1 hour. — 2 months ago

Kindzmarauli Semi-Sweet Saperavi 2019

My first taste of the Georgian Saperavi grape and I like it.

It starts dry but quickly turns purple plum juicy and into a sweet finish.

Meskhuri Tetri White Dry Unfiltered Qvevri Wine

Fun Georgian foraged wine. Surprisingly smooth for a foraged grape, taste like a great French natural wine. Ate with grilled chicken with asparagus and ramps. — 2 months ago

Le Brutal de Claude, Pinot Noir

This wine won’t be for everyone but it shows just how diverse wine can be. Funky mushroom aromas on the nose. Taste of barley, kombucha, and bitter melon. Would be great on a warm day in the sun with fresh fruit and cheese. — 3 months ago
