Château De Puligny Montrachet

Etienne Sauzet

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1992

Tasted blind, from two combined bottles. Medium-ish gold but doesn’t come across as old. Notes of apricot, lemon, tangerine and a little iodine. Fat and rich in the mouth. Luscious. Balanced with lots of fruit and ample acidity. Easy to pick the vintage. Guessed 92 Batard from a producer other than Leflaive. Has more energy and excitement than the 90 Niellon Batard next to it. At peak and a delight to drink. — 9 hours ago

Bienvenue Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1992

Light to medium gold color, heavy and viscous in the glass. Stark, powerful nose. Sweet Meyer lemons, tan spice, lemon creme and dusty dry earth. A little spearmint comes on over time. Rich and powerful in the mouth. This has a massive core of fruit with matching acidity. Great juice! — 8 days ago

I’d love to drink that. Mine were drunk too fast. Never thought 92 would last.

No formal notes. Pierre lost his source after 16 vintage for these grapes. A shame. Stunning. Pure, deep and structured. Ethereal and pure. Sappy. Needs 5 years. — 7 days ago

Domaine Michel Niellon

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1990

Tasted blind, from two combined bottles. Yellow gold. Dirty lemon nose. Notes of lemon creme, wet stones, some dirt, some marzipan and vanilla, and a little honeysuckle. Rich in the mouth. Good structure with softened acidity. The unique nose of Niellon is easy to identify... Guessed 86 Batard. Great juice. — 9 hours ago

Clos de la Mouchère Monopole Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2008

Confrérie Des Chevaliers du Tastevin Sous-Commanderie d'Albany; 20 September 2020 at New World Bistro, Albany, NY

Physically Distanced 🚧 but Socially Close 🤗 dinner, our first in +8mo. Following the reasonable NY State dining regulations, seated and masked. While a new experience, it was well worth it to see our core group again.

Needle-sharp acids from the first cold glass, much better to wait until it gets to cellar temp or even a bit warmer, when it becomes something absolutely compelling. — 8 days ago

Domaine Paul Pernot et Ses Fils

Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1996

Ever so slightly oxed but like...it’s 24 years old. And it’s really damn good. Got that lovely old white wine dehydrated pee color. Nutty, butterscotch, marzipan, lemon curd, baked apple, creamy tangerine, mineral, iodine, smoke. And the acid is still so lively. Still evolving after 90 minutes. — 15 days ago

Olivier Leflaive

Enseignères Puligny-Montrachet Chardonnay 2017

Olivier Leflaive was formed in 1984 by Olivier and his brother Patrick. Pale lemon with aromas of stone fruits and nutty toasty citrus notes. On the palate apple and pear flavors with lemon rind, complex with vanilla and mineral tones on the lingering finish. Very Nice! Tasting well. — a day ago

Delectable - this is the Premier Cru Les Folatieres. At the Downs Club Burgundy Dinner - brief notes. This had pronounced struck match on the nose. Great intensity on the palate showing stone fruit - 2017 will be good for White Burgundies I feel. Ramon, the host thought this was the WOTN. I agreed. — 5 days ago

What a nose. Deep, rich, honeyed, hints of mint, deep stony minerality. On the palate this is lush and broad with huge depth. There’s a honeyed intensity. Loads of detail but lush and sexy. Sweet edges. Wow — 3 days ago
