Trap me in the Chopo House any time. 100% Monastrell — aka Mourvèdre to you Freedom Fries lovers out there — which is the fifth-most planted grape variety in Spain these days per Jancis Robinson et al (h/t @Brendan Devine). Medium-plus acidity, bright black and purple fruits, downright Montepulciano vibes. Definitely looking like a re-buy next time I cross state lines. — 2 years ago
My favorite white wine! Thanks @Brendan Devine for the great gift. The 2017 is showing a touch less #RUBBER than past vintages, but it’s still terrific. More well-used garden hose than fresh Durex in the 2017. Lovely stuff. — 3 years ago
Philly natural wine #2. Carbonic Grenache had me dreaming of the carbonic Cab Franc from the Texas High Plains with @Brendan Devine. This doesn’t quite reach that rarefied air, but it’s good. Earthy, spicy tannins, and red fruits. Served chilled, would recommend. — 2 years ago
“I haven’t smelled a wine this elegant in a while,” I said aloud when this hit the decanter a few hours ago. Spectacular gift from @Brendan Devine which is the most appropriate way to begin a strange last weekend in Houston. Plum and raisins dominate in a good way, black pepper and soft earth round it out. You might find me ordering a case sometime soon. — 2 years ago
Had with Penny in our first lunch after boarding the Queen Isabel cruise on Douro River. We’re in Porto. Brendan arranged for it; nice surprise! — 3 years ago
