Excellent! 2011 Cab. Happy 4th. Wear a mask and like Mick Jagger says in “she’s the boss” STAY HOME (&drink all our wine) #covid19quarantine — 3 months ago
Had this delicious red on a hot summer’s day. It’s almost instinctual to make a Tinto de Verano when drinking a Spanish red in summer, but not with this sublime tempranillo...no, no, no, this one is for sipping and savoring all in its native form. Pair with some pungent cheese, maybe some cabrales, and some garlicky caracoles, then call the boss and tell him you won’t be in, tomorrow. — 2 months ago

Just a sample from a very friendly store in Leavenworth. But it was very smooth and not at all juicy. A session red! — 6 months ago
Wow. One of the great vineyards of the world. A formerly ignored part of the mosel. Now famous because of high scores. Brilliant wines from auslese to off dry to dry. For my money the top producer in the mosel.
Nose is the best peaches in the world. Insane peach perfume as it opens.
Palate is perfect peaches and candies sugar made from peaches. Acidity crushes the palate. Huge acidity and freshness. Amazing. Texture is perfect. It lets you know who’s boss but doesn’t interfere.
As this opens it flays the palate with a whip made of magic peaches.
Still young. Will add complexity as it ages. Will last 40 years or more.
I’m having this with goat cheese and truffle honey.

Nose has mashed black cherry, dried plum, light stemmy notes, black licorice, charred barrel, cherry sauce reduction, warm tar, molasses, dark chocolate shavings, fresh cherry and light peppery herbs (watercress?).
Palate has bright black cherry, dried red cherry, unsweetened dried cranberry, moist earth, ripe plum, slight mint note, medium barrel notes, slightly drying with a medium-long finish, mild tannins.
The first of several 2014 La Pousse d'Or bottles we acquired late in 2019. This, as expected needs another 6-8+ years (2026+) to show its truer self.
Paired with slowly braised beef short ribs from a trusty farmer in Columbia Co. (Kinderhook Farm, Valatie, NY). Since good chefs know the sauce is the boss, we did an Asian-style sauce (soy, ginger, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, garlic, red pepper flake, carrots & onions) which flavored the beef nicely and reduced even better! All served over brown rice, with toasted sesame seeds, so nice.
Cork pulled ~8h prior, to allow for a slow ox in a cool cellar space, this was the right move. — 5 months ago
