Is thank pink peppercorn and the suggestion of rose petals? Inky enough to start a journal, with bitter, red fruit standing on the sidelines. The usual clay minerality isn't as dense as I would expect, the gravel and iron of Gazin terroir brightening up the mid palate phenomenally. Tannins are still a bit fuzzy in this 2012, but I bet in 6 years or more, a savory, smooth bouquet would marry the tart red fruits for a satisfying right-bank Bordeaux. — 8 years ago

A gift to a friend. I loved Rodez's Cuvée des Crayères, especially for the price. I bet this is another fantastic champagne sub-$100. I'll add more if I get to crack it open. — 9 years ago

Lovely, inky and soft. Dry spice, bright acidity, delicate tannins, and rich, jammy boysenberry fill your mouth and barrage the senses on a bing cherry platform. This is the kind of Burgundy you long for. — 10 years ago

I love Riesling, and I love bright acidity, but there is a line. On occasion, piercing acidity is your best friend, but my palate prefers round and tangy to electric and staunch. Enter: Dönnhoff. A rich kabinett with punchy lychee, lime zest, and honeysuckle. A touch of cardamom and not-even-cracked white pepper balance the fleshy white peach and green grape fruit. Like pear rock candy, spectacular. — 8 years ago

I must be drinking this wine too young; the bright acidity is lighting up the fruitier notes of juicy cranberry and tart raspberry. Dried violets on the nose hint at deeper aromatics with more time. Savory notes of balsamico are beginning to express themselves. I should be getting peppercorn, maybe pink, but it's not as prevalent as in others. This is a good wine, especially at the price. I'd drink more, but Faury has a killer St. Joseph that is price comparable that delivers more of that inkiness I love so much. — 9 years ago

I promise you, I do not give perfect scores. My English teacher only gave six 100%'s my Junior year; you have to earn it beyond a doubt. This is my Ode to (Ms.) King. Deep and complex? Check. Over extracted? Of course not. Elegant and refined? God save the Queen. :) If I could only drink one wine ever again, this might be it. — 10 years ago

Funky and tart, like a barn rave. It's been a few months since I've gotten to flirt with Burgundy proper, and I'm glad to be back. Pairing with chicken cacciatore, to bring out the herbaceous, wet-hay-like gaminess that makes wine like this perfect for dinner tonight. While the tart acidity isn't usually my first choice, it balances my dinner masterfully. I bet in 3-5 years, the barrel spice, fruit, and acidity will marry well. — 8 years ago

Clean, yeasty/doughy on the nose. Tender, tiny bubbles make for a delicate perlage delivering bright, apply acidity with a soft, lingering finish of bread crust. Yum. ^_^ — 9 years ago

I love the versatility of Syrah. From bright and abrasive, to deep and inky, this varietal makes me happy. This bottle is serving all of the acidic brightness of a delicious old-world, with the darker, earthier flavors I love so much. People say bacon and tobacco, I say pork belly and seared red meat. Sour red berries, like Bing Cherry and Raspberry, are still arguing with the drier notes in this wine; another 3-4 years in the bottle would resolve this feud nicely, I'm sure. — 9 years ago
