Great is the fortune of he who possesses a good bottle, a good book, a great friend.
1st weekend to kick-off summer season at the lake! How better to start than with this Carter Cab? Tannins have smoothed and you are left with cherry, blackberries and a hint of smoke. Hoping all are lifting a glass this weekend with family or friends and toasting the coming of Spring and the beauty of life. Cheers all! — 5 months ago
Haven’t posted in a while but this beauty motivated me to get back in the game. ‘07 but still punches you in the face with plum then sits on your tongue with leather and blackberries with a finish that lasts for days. Tannins have smoothed and made this really good wine a few years ago into a really really good wine. YUM! Happy New Year shout out to the WNH! Wishing all a happy and prosperous new year! — 9 months ago
Haven’t posted for a while, but enjoying seeing what all you guys are drinking! Hoping all had a wonderful holiday!!!! Served before dinner with herb-onion marinated olives and a 12 year cheddar. Ooooh baby! Loads of cherry, blackberry and a hint of old leather balanced the cheese and olives for a fantastic pre-dinner app. Actually, just cut another slice of cheese, pour me another glass and forget the dinner! Friday afternoon before vacation week! What better a moment to enjoy a glass or two? Been sitting on some Firebelle bottles for (probably) too long, and the first sip post-cork says the wait was worthwhile. Yes, I know, it’s a Merlot blend and probably shouldn’t age too long, but I don’t think this bottle suffered at all. Inky dark, rich, smooth mid-mouth feel. Light finish with just a hint of strawberry. Very little mineral effect usually typical of Larkmead due to mid valley floor. Enjoy the weekend, all. Headed out to Tahoe... — 7 months ago
Paso red blend that has developed beautifully. Balanced smooth with hint of cherry, blackberry and leather for miles. Pre-ski trip celebration at home. Headed to Deer Valley tomorrow for a long weekend on the slopes...or a long weekend of wine in the lodge by the fire. Haven’t decided yet... — 2 years ago
Winter wine at the summer house! Usually not a fan, but the 08 is smooth and refined. Probably a year past peak, but pairing well with my feta stuffed olives. Enjoyed as an end-of-the-work-week respite and prep for the weekend. Nod to the WNH! Anyone skiing in Tahoe in March? — 8 months ago
The wine gods have smiled and urged me to open this ‘08 Pride cab. Tobacco, plum, a hint of wood ash and leather from a well-worn saddle bag. Seriously, this is at a premium place in its aging process. Thinking only another 2-3 years, so pop ‘em if you got ‘em. Toasting all of you, my friends, for a prosperous new year filled with wine, family and friends! — 2 years ago
