This is why I love wine. Always something new to learn and try. This gem from 1980 is from Alicante, Spain - Late harvest monastrell grapes that are aged to create an unfortified, rancio character wine due to long aging in large barrels. Perfectly sweet, with savory, oxidative goodness of walnut, toffee, burnt orange peel, ginger, dates, and clover honey. — 9 years ago
Bright, light on its feet, but so much lovely complexity of fresh citrus, herbs and delicate white flowers. Young, but a treat. — 9 years ago
This was the stunner of the night for me. Perhaps just because I never drink white #BDX but holy. The silky texture filled the palate with the soft white linen, acacia flower, melon, juicy Bosc pear, bees wax and lemon curd. A hint of herbaceous was kept it fresh and interesting, and the taste of honeysuckle - Oh my. Curvy, yet elegant. Still can't stop thinking about this wine. Stunning. So lucky to have enjoyed this with family and friends at mY old stomping grounds, #DBK. — 9 years ago
Never would have guessed this was over 20 years old. Dense and ripe, dark and bright. Damson plum, juicy boysenberry, craisins, fig, red licorice, leather, gravel, dried tobacco, lighted aromatics of dried, crushed lavender and vanilla bean. So lucky to have enjoyed this wine with family and friends. — 9 years ago
Color density was shockingly rich for a 30 year old wine, but nose and palate showed the graceful aging of this absolute classic. Graphite, pencil dust, wet Forrest floor, touch of green pepper, very little primary fruit, but just a touch of black plum and tart cherry. Wonderful, but felt it was missing that "other-worldly" character that stops time and space. — 9 years ago
Beautiful bright cherry and raspberry, blood orange, orange blossom and touch of thyme and cardamom - delicate but a beautiful, round texture that made for a lovely food wine that paired wonderfully with shared dishes of grilled octopus, cauliflower, and ricotta spread. — 9 years ago

Lovely, full Chardonnay - complex and aromatic style. Gardenia, vanilla cream, melon, dried pineapple, green apple, too. Great little producer out in Yadkin Valley, North Carolina. Thanks, Joey! Blind tasted, and it held its own against Napa! — 9 years ago
