A hot summer and overall difficult vintage that resulted in one of the earliest picks for this wine has resulted in one of the most austere versions of this bottling I’ve tasted. Still incredibly charming and well made, this is going to deliver pleasure over the next 5-7 years. — 6 years ago

A hedonistic Pomerol in every sense of the word, this wine shows all the signatures of the warm, ripe 2015 vintage. There are certainly better values in 2015, but you definitely get your money’s worth here. Give the oak a few more years to integrate, then this should be ready to rock — 6 years ago

From all of the stunning 2017 Cru Beaujolais, this wine along with Daniel Bouland’s Delys have been the most vivid textural wines that I can recall from the vintage. This wine improved on day 2 and day 3, and day 4 still held plenty of charm suggesting a splendid life ahead. Great stuff. — 6 years ago

I was pleasantly surprised by this bottling. Stored since release at a restaurant, this was just starting to hit prime drinking. Plums, spices, licorice and menthol all soar from the glass in this beautifully crafted Barolo. Gorgeous. — 6 years ago

2015 is an especially generous vintage for Meyney. The signature dark cherries and chocolate shavings take center stage, paving way for what is one of my favorite weeknight reds of the vintage. The tannins are a bit drying now and in need of some time, but in 4-5 years this is going to peak for a solid decade or more. — 6 years ago

Boisterous fruit profile with sepid tannins and a lovely lingering, if not slightly warm finish. Nice wine, but think you can find similar quality at a more accessible price point. — 6 years ago

A special example of the delicacy that can be achieved on the Sonoma Coast when a solid picking choice is made. In the same breath, it is also an example for me of the constraints of the region. While broad and sprawling, there are really few sites suited for intriguing growing conditions for Pinot Noir, and even when done at the highest level, you can usually find higher quality at a lower price point from many known Pinot growing regions around the world. This is a qualitative peak for the AVA, and certainly worth considering. — 6 years ago

Not many are doing Clos Vougeot better now than Drouhin-Laroze. There’s always a ton of variability with this Grand Cru, but D-L’s 1ha parcel is on a prime spot high on the hill that used to be reserved for the pope. This wine is off-the-charts for me in 2016 just like it was in 2015, and it’s going to have an illustrious life ahead of it. — 6 years ago

The overall tasting winner of the night and my second favorite of the bunch. Nicely integrated oak with voluptuous cassis and dark berry fruit. Easy to like now, but the best is surely yet to come — 6 years ago
