Perhaps my top ‘value’ find of the year to date is this village Marsanne by Yves Cuilleron.
Decanted for an hour, on the nose this was perfumed if a little restrained, with lemon zest, wet stone, honey.
A far more expressive wine on the palate, however. Oily and honeyed, combining rich, tropical fruits with a minerality and acidity that brings it all together. Dry, with a lasting finish though one that loses some breadth after a while - a touch flabby. Nonetheless, this entry level Cuilleron provides incredible bang for your buck. The 2017 drinks well now and I don’t see any advantage to cellaring.

Sharp and resonant. Wonderful compliment to the dory entree. Not an elite Marsanne but it met the challenge tonight!

Big and rich without being flabby, thanks to a hint of acidity at the end. Floral on the nose with poached pear and vanilla ice cream on the palate. Great with spicy food.
