Yalumba
The Virgilius Eden Valley Viognier
Lemon yellow in colour in the glass. Aromatic Pear and nutty notes. The palate is unctuous, rich and delicious of medium plus intensity and low acid. Excellent Viognier from the acknowledged leader in the variety making the best examples in Australia I believe. Not for long cellaring and drinking really well right now. Had another bottle 37 weeks later on 30th December 2021 with consistent notes. Always a pleasure to drink one of these. Julia Harding said a perfect varietal expression. Had my final bottle on 12th June 2022 with consistent notes. Apricot notes with an oily unctuous texture - an excellent winter white.

Apr 11th, 2021Nose of dusty Apricots. On palate unctuous as always of profound intensity with enough layered fruit to carry the mouth puckering acidity. This is destined for a long life. Good concentration. With air developed a touch of honeycomb. Yalumba has been developing its expertise in Viognier for many years and it is not surprising that they now make the best example of this varietal in Australia.

May 4th, 2018Pale to mid Gold. At the Yalumba tasting. They are probably the foremost exponents of the Viognier grape in Australia and have been working with it for many years. Notes of apricot and quince. A mouth filling unctuous middle palate finishing with a refreshing Grapefruit bitterness. Will cellar. I would say up to 7 or 8 years.
