Shelley Anne Woodlands Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Woodlands premium Cabernet every year is named after a family member. Shelley Anne is the wife of Stuart Watson, winemaker and part owner. The nose is herbal with notes of blackberry. I reckon I could pick this as Margaret River Cabernet in a blind tasting. On the palate vanillin oak is noticeable which is surprising at 15 years of age. Next night that vanilla oak was still poking through, which will probably always be there. The normal descriptors of bay leaf and cigar box somewhat subdued by the oak. One of my favourite Cabernets in Australia but not as much in 2008. 4 left in the cellar. It will be interesting to see any changes in the next 5 years. See previous note from November 2018. The 2009 the following year was an absolute stunner. Had another bottle of the 2008 37 weeks later on 12th November. Always a great bottle with a good BBQ Steak. Very Margaret River herbaceous and to be ultra critical this needs more mid palate fruit with blackberry and cassis to get a few more points.

Feb 24th, 2023Cedar And Blackcurrant aromas with fresh Herbs. A classic 10 year old Margaret River Cabernet. Blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon; 3% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. A perfect match with Porterhouse Waygu grade 5-6. Medium weight and still with a future but I would be drinking my remaining 5 bottles by 2025. One of the Top Cabs in the Margaret River in the dress circle Wilyabrup sub district over the road from Moss Wood. Sandy fine Tannins. A touch of menthol/eucalypt after a few hours in the Decanter.

Nov 8th, 2018Continuing with the Langtons Classification tasting of the Best Australian Wines in the Outstanding Category. This Woodlands Cuvée always named after a Family member is their best expression of Cabernet. I have been buying 6 bottles every year since 2007. In the Wilyabrup dress circle over the road from Moss Wood and close to Cullen and Vasse Felix. Always one of the best in Margaret River. Just noticed @Delect Able that the 2010 is Heather Jean not ShelleyAnne.

Pleasure to drink this elegant Cabernet Sauvignon with friends and marinated lamb two ways on the BBQ. Power and depth with gentle blackcurrant.
