Second of the blind Witchery Wines we are reviewing today.

Deep and dark purplish ruby red. Lots of oak influence on the nose with sweet spices, dark cocoa and dark berries. Heavy tannins (7/10) and medium bodied. Notes of black cherries, hint of minerality, dark cocoa and other sweet spices on the palate. Gained some herbal notes with air. Drink till 2023. | Sample, release price is $110.00.

More bday celebrations!

Deep purplish ruby red. Dark nose with raspberries, black cherries and cocoa. A bit of spices too. Moderate tannins (6/10) and strong acidity. A touch of heat with lots of red fruits and perfumey notes. Great structure, seems to be a little closed right now. Give it a couple years before revisiting. Drink till 2025.

Witchery is a small winery that is making some great cabs and blends. India and I brought this for my family to try. This is the inaugural vintage of the Witchery Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District. This was a PNP, but before I got to taste this wine it was in the glass and decanter for around an hour. The color is a dark opaque ruby red with a hue of purple and not cloudy. I have had really good experiences with Grant’s wines (winemaker for Witchery). In the nose there is plenty of cassis and dark fruits. Additionally it has notes of vanilla and a warm sitting by the fire sensation. Lots of cassis and dark fruit notes in the palate. The body is moderate with moderate (at the maximum) to low tannins. The finish lingers for a moderate period of time. This wine is a crowd pleaser! So drinkable and smooth. Everything is where it belongs making it roll down your tongue like silk. Only disappointment was that this was a PNP, which leads me to think that it is not a wine to cellar. The Oakville will have more cellar life and so will the blend over the Spring Mountain. Nonetheless I love Witchery’s wines and if you ever get a chance, jump on it and grab some!
