Hölle Riesling

Brilliant if a bit closed.

This nose has an insane perfume. Spice, smoke, chalk, citrus, mango, tangerine, peach, confectionary and it’s got so much depth and purity. So focused and narrows it’s got lasers. Dense and chewy and unreal saltiness. Smokey as well and just so enveloping. What a finish. Almost tannic. Intensity. Acidity higher than schlossberg and probstey. Less ripe but more depth. So clean. Unreal.

What a great showing. Nose of tangelo, moss, lemon confection and a deep background of honey. Stunning depth. Palate is ripe and rich but so textured like icing on a cake and terrific exotic citrus tang and flesh on tbt exceptionally long finish. Fresh and energetic. This is very good but the Rieslings at Thorle went to the next level in 2020. Especially the Holle.

Wide open. 2018’s are having a moment!

What a nose. Lemon, confectionary, salty, complex perfume. Insane spice. Tree bark. Citrus. Pink grapefruit. Elegant and pure. Electric and so intense. Concentrated. That is something. Elegance. That’s the best Holle ever. Textured and so complex. Lemony and structured.

Huge expressive stunning nose. Deep fleshy minerals. Lime zest. Minerals. Pink grapefruit. Other types of citrus. Nuanced, layered and complex. Juicy, dense and very concentrated with amazing sap and freshness. Super citric and jaw droppingly pure. Citrus flesh really pronounced on the nose. Wow this is so structured. More than Probstey and Schlossberg and it starts out closed but also has the icing on cake texture of elite Riesling. But the finish is clipped for now. A lovely airy saline limestone now emanates from the glass. Hint of barely ripe tropical fruit. Needs massive air, especially on the palate. The finesse is starting to come through as is some ripe sweet citrus fruit. Inner mouth aromas are also developing. I’ll be back.

The big boy at Thorle. The creme de la creme. Nose is super complex but mad closed. Always the best wines take the longest to unfurl. Spicey. Citrus. Massive limestone. Amazing purity and depth. The nose of the superstar wine. Herbal and mineral. Wafting. Always changing. Wow, what a palate. Concentrated and dense with all sorts of pithy vineyard peach, apricot and citrus and then snaps back with intense minerality and ridiculous freshness. Wow. What presence. Takes over your palate and leaves an impression of minerals like nothing else. Super impressive. Sappy and long. Nose gets more complex as it airs. Just more and more. Dizzying. The limestone imprint is palpable. Amazing density and concentration and as usual Holle needs the most time and air. I will be back. But a no brainer 9.6.

As expected this is more mineral driven and tighter than the Probstey. Cooler site and mostly limestone. Nose is clean and airy with lovely minerality. It’s a bit aromatically closed but it has a hidden depth just hinted at. Palate shows the majestic power and minerality of the great Hölle. Really dense and opulent with amazing texture and just electric acid and minerality. Energy that could propel rocket fusion. Wow. Incredible balance and this is a dense packed Riesling that can age 15+ years easy. Dense and concentrated and so young. But so awesome. Wait 5 years.

Stunning. Nose is a bit quiet, quiet citrus, lime zest, mineral, swimming pool, palate is insane. Super limey on the palate but super mineral intense but also so juicy and the dissipation on the finish is incredible. Wow. Stunning.
