Whetstone Wine Cellars
Phoenix Ranch Vineyard Syrah
Give this wine proper time to open up and you'll be happy. White pepper, chocolate, currants with a touch of alc on the nose. Very dry and tight at first but opens up beautifully. Great grain of tannin, full bodied without being viscous. Probably score higher in two hours.

Oct 25th, 2016Gobs of blueberries, white pepper and bright acid. Hold for another 2 to 4 and drink over the next 10. Lean, spiced black tea finish. Very well made.

Jun 29th, 2015The 2010. This is my third time drinking this (my last bottle) and it was way different than the last two times. It might have been our food/wine progression, but it was much more peppery this time around. The fruit was much more subdued and less juicy and the gamey-ness was just starting to come into play. This was the wine that got me crushin' on Atlas Peak.

Apr 3rd, 2014Dense dark purple but surprisingly medium bodied. High toned white pepper, blueberries, blackberries, orange peel, eucalyptus, herbs de Provence, long finish and delicious.

Apr 4th, 2020Wine number 2 in 3rd flight last night. All Mags and decanted prior. This was a bit disappointing. Disjointed and missing something. Savory more than fruit forward, maybe it needs more time.

Oct 15th, 2017Absolute fresh cedar, pepper and massive fruit on the nose. Massive structure, very full bodied. Long legs, long finish. Dark and inky color.....this is a powerful Syrah with a long life. This has some long rack time to go, but this is a serious delight. Loving Whetstone.... #WhetstoneRocks
