Wente Vineyards
Shorthorn Canyon Livermore Valley Syrah
This is a nice wine especially at the price ($12-$14). It has a very nice nose with black and purple fruit (cherry, cranberry, a little blueberry), a fair amount of savory spice, and smooth hints of vanilla. On the palate it is well balanced. Black cherry is the predominant flavor along with savory spice. As the wine breathes for an hour or longer it becomes even more smooth. The fruit opens up more and the smooth vanilla finish transitions nicely to the savory spice. An enjoyable wine. I'm not sure I'd buy it again but I would drink it again.
