It took a while to open up
Still drinks super young with an acidity nearly as if it is a white wine..if it wasn't for the tannin
It hasn't unfolded much complexity, but it is long and super promising for the next 15-20 years
2013 Wendouree are going to live in balance for a long time

Dark crimson in colour - impenetrable. Aromas of liquorice, blackberry mint and plum which carry through to the full bodied palate. Fluid tannins verging on silky. I’ve had many bottles of Wendouree over the years and not all of them have been awesome. When I was left off the mailing list I had been on for ages, in favour of my brother who had been years on the waiting list (I think it was a mistake) I didn’t mind but this was delicious and special - the product of very old vines from both grapes. This wine shows the rich ripeness of the 2008 vintage throughout South Australia. An exceptional dry red.

From the disappointing wet 2011 vintage in South Australia where many producers did not produce a wine, but, typically with old vine fruit from Wendouree, this showed well. Quite ripe considering the vintage, yet medium weight palate - liquorice and spice notes with excellent intensity. Those old vines cover a multitude of sins like a cold wet vintage. 11 years is rather young for a Wendouree but given the vintage this was very polished. Has enough guts to have another 5+ years in the cellar.

The mataro gives it the flesh I guess
Very minerally, nearly tingling

Wow. Wish I had more. Beautiful elegance, earth, some spice and elegant dark fruit.

Not overly "Wendouree" which is a good thing IMO. Some earthy spicy notes with mineral. Medium weight. Has the guts to cellar for a while yet even at 15 years if you like the style. Tasted again on 27 February. Even better than before. Twiggy earthy notes again. Great depth of flavour. A little tar from the Mataro. Excellent wine.
