Another new or rejiggered bottling by Schätzel. What a wine. Step up in refinement and subtlety over the Kabinett bottling. Bottle is a bit taller as well. Nice detail. Nose is unreal. There is a distinctive Nierstein vibe here which to me is the “Mosel of the Rheinhessen.” Lifting aromas of fresh herbs and limestone with huge deep and delicate citrus and apricot fruit with an exotic hint of papaya or persimmon. That hint turns it from very good to very great. Also a confectionary sugar aroma. Just “extra” as the kids like to say these days. Gahhhh. This is beautiful. Juicy and dripping with lime infused apricot and juicy citrus fruits with sweet green apple. Great energy and gorgeous purity here. Just a perfect Kabinett with great concentration and raw materials. This is an ager and just so epic. Will age 20 years. Exceptional .

Dec 1st, 2019This is stunning. Perfect Kabi in my book. Insane nose of pineapple, citrus, apricot, resin, pine, perfume, confectionary aromas, so insane. Mineral as all can be. Palate is just humming. Huge fruit, perfectly judged sweetness and finishes almost dry leaving your palate awash in luscious minerals and echoes of sweet fruit. This floats. Stunning.

Amazingly well made kabinett. You have the stone fruit. Luscious peaches. You have the minerals in the background. Rippinglyngreat acidity to create perfect freshness. Some sweetness but not an excessive amount. Likely amazing in 15 years. It’s the best rheinhessen/babe man I’ve had. I’m more if a tricked guy but if you like jab from those areas this is the bomb. Alas I made tofu in black bean sauce tonight and could not wait.

Nose is miraculous. Like peach flower and apricot flower with mineral. Palate is crunchy mineral with acid and perfect peach. Perfect juiciness. Amazin g peach skin in the finish. Bought from Fass Selections.
