Jun 16th, 2024Glorious nose of cranberry bog, mid season cherries, spice, redcurrant and slate. Super aromas and also a light, lithe color. Wet earth and leaves and so very Pinot. Flowers. Rose petals. So so pretty. Precise and with unreal clarity. Palate is so lithe and elegant with gorgeous sweet mineral inflected fruit and such an amazing Pinot texture. Wow is this super elegant and pretty. Gorgeous 4d texture and so enveloping and haunting. Reminds me of Volnay. Gorgeous velvety and sweet tannins and stunning purity. This is elite wine and really has opened a bunch since I had it last. Long, persistent finish. 9.5 for now but might go up. Finish keeps getting longer. The spice is out of hand on the nose with air. Easily, Stefan’s most complete Pinot ever. So silky and elegant with gorgeously ripe tannins. Dense but nimble
Nose is now gorgeous on day 2 with unreal vivid cranberry, some underarm funk, slate and superb early season cherrie. Palate is silky and sweet with superb, nimble concentration and an elegant chewiness. Stunning cherry fruit and length. What a wine. Wow is this great

Wonderfully sappy and fresh with perfect balance the most restrained opulence ever. So pure and clear. The clarity of the fruit is remarkable. So much more open than the one I had at Steinmetz’s at the end of August. Really silky and sweet. One foot in the old Spätburgunder style and one foot in the red riesling camp. Amazing freshness.

Oct 14th, 2022Gorgeous nose. Nose has complex earth tones, cherry, cherry cough syrup, herbals and wild mint. Stefan’s 18’s need time, but the materials are all there. The nose is very fine and very refined. Layered and so vivid. Stefan is the real deal. Palate is concentrated and sappy. Such lovely ripeness and velvety tannins. Dark cherries on this and wonderful, complex spice. Amazing fruit and density. Big time tannins and structure. Needs 5-8 years but all the material is there.
