Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier
Mölsheim Riesling
Rheinhessen, Germany

Wow. This wine is so great. I’ve had dozens of bottles at this point and it just performs! What a nose. Honeydew melon, honey, apricot, spice, mineral, limestone, ripe and juicy, so linear and clean. Complex and mineral and with staggering elegance and purity. Delicious and cerebral. So elegant. Make that finish a bit longer and add some complexity and you got a GG. A true baby GG. Young vines Hergott.

Awesome. An exercise in winemaking. Mineral. Citrus. A hint of tropicality. Bought from Fass Selections.

This was the year Battenfeld made the leap. With 16 and soon 17, these wines can compete with Keller in a realistic way. What a Mölsheim. Best ever. And I love 13. Sick nose, complex citrus notes, mineral, apricot, a sense of deepness yet mineral and laser focused. Wafting. One of my favorite words. Citrus oil and honey. A confectionary aroma. Just so gorgeous. The palate is just a force. Wall of flavor with big fruit, big minerals and electric acids. So drinkable and ridiculously juicy. Medium to full bodied but so elegant and intensely mineral. It goes opulent to scintillating in like a nanosecond and then fans out gorgeous minerals on the finish. Stunning.
