Menguante Cariñena Vidadillo
Vidadillo grape varietal needs lower temperature because of its long cycle...around 500 meters. Appelation origin Carinena did not accept this for the Appelation so the owners took a sample to Bordeaux university for DNA work and it turns out to be an ancient varietal.... Older than Garnacha. Needless to say it is now recognized. Intense, juicy, lots of acidity low 3.3 ph ...and a little grip.... Tough wine to prroduce Great to age for sure. Screams out for lamb and rosemary... A labour of love

3 people found it helpfulJul 30th, 2013This is the sort of wine I wish more Spanish wineries would make. Use indigenous varietals, pick when the ripeness and acidity is balanced, and don't oak the crap out of it. Deep, minerally black cherry fruit in the nose. Hint of bark and licorice. Rich, deeply fruit flavors, but with some nice minerality and decent acids . No damn oak, thank God. Not complex, but a joy to drink with dinner.
Imagine how many amazing wines, instead of overoaked crap, would come out of places like Ribera del Duero if this became a trend.
HT to my brother for giving this to me.

Butterscotch on the nose and the palate. Also it is pretty nutty. I love it.

Oct 25th, 2016Beautiful dark burgundy color. Get raisins, red hot balls ( remember those when u were a kid?). and nuts in the nose. Gorgeous mouthfeel. Liquid velvet. Nice acidity. I am really impressed with this!

Jun 6th, 2016Very similar to Cab Franc. Deep purple in colour, not rich plum and cherry, black pepper and tomato leaves on the nose. Palate is full, with vibrant acidity and middle-time finish. Soft and juicy, and by the way, my very first Vidadillo!
89/100
