Fathers Day gift! Juan Magaña founded Viña Magaña in 1970, owns 247 acres of old French vines in the town of Barillas, first vintage 1976. A Blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cab Sauvignon, 15% Tempranillo & 5% Syrah. Very pleasant wine showing age well. Still had tight nose, few minutes to open aromas of fruit, earthy herbs and pepper spice. Blackberry & cherry, underlying sweetness, elegant & rich, well balanced with acidity. Soft tannins, great mouthfeel lingering ending with fruit surrounded by earthy herb character. Outstanding!

Navarra Bordeaux Blend. Lots of prune aromas and flavors. Hints of tobacco, cassis nuts and dried herbs. So full (and almost sweet) that it is one step from a dessert wine. Also a little bit funky. Smooth tannins. Interesting, but not my style.
