Dionisio Ruiz Rioja Maturana

Inky blackcurrant and Hawthorne fruit with a violet perfume, blackcurrant fruit pastels. In the mouth you get much of the same fruits, it's a touch hotter than the 13% noted but there's some juicy black fruit pushing through the soft tannins and a lightly spicy finish

A native grape of Rioja, Tinta Maturana, only allowed by the DOCa as a permitted variety since 2007. Dark and fleshy, liquorice, raisin and a hint of vanilla. Not subtle but juicy big and spicy. Somewhat reminiscent of a Nero d'Avola

A tremendous pairing with aged Red Leicester cheese

Dry with a light tang of flavour.

Nez d'Annette et beaucoup d'acidité en bouche

Could have used some decanting. It was reduced and had a fair amount of pencil lead. It fortunately opened up and revealed a very nice profile of bramble and coconut. Quite acidic
