Viña Almaviva S.A.
Baron Philippe Rothschild Red Bordeaux Blend

Visited this property in 2017. It’s not that far outside of Santiago. Maybe a 40-45 minute drive from town.
94+ with appropriate aging.
A wine that deserves more attention in the US but doesn’t likely because it is Chilean. I’ve traveled to every wine region of relevance to know there are many world regions that produce high quality wines. This one a Rothschild property.

Deep Ruby color with the faintest hint of garnet at the rim, lovely aromas and flashes of a still youthful, developing wine. Plush, velvety tannin balanced with firm acidity gives the wine a good foundation the classy flavors of cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, violet, Red plum and black plum, mint, vanilla, cedar and smoke. Beginning to show tertiary character with a dried cherry, dried tobacco leaf and dried violet. Elegant and still a decade of life ahead

Deep Ruby color, very aromatic and surprisingly approachable for its youth. Plenty of plush, velvety tannin underlining the classy ripeness of the wine. Cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, violet, Red plum and black plum, a faint aroma of mint, vanilla, cedar and smoke. Only beginning to show tertiary character with a bit of dried cherry and dried tobacco leaf. Elegant and plenty of finesse.

Preferred this younger but that loam, tobacco, leather smoky oak more integrated and still luxurious

Rich extracts of ripe blue berry and black cherry. Super present tannins but fully integrated and smooth. Solid earthy undertones settling on the finish.

Oak, mint. Smooth from begging. A bit sweet. Black currant major. Later on, a bit spicy. Start drinking after 1.5 hours decanting, and 6 hours. Maybe, it is better to wait for a few years. It is difficult to decant it perfectly within a few hours. But gentle even from 1.5 hours (even just opening, ok to drink, but of course a bit solid) that is different from Bordeaux. 2017 @5000, R, 210625

Wow. I closed my eyes and wound up in Boudreaux. Enjoyed this great wine at the winery’s restaurant. Great backend of dark fruits and tobaccos
