Bouquet starts filing up the room as soon as you pop the cork. The nose plays on juicy raspberries, black olives, lavender, and Saucisson Sec. This is designed for food, and structurally, this shows you that from the very beginning. The initial and mid-palate presents bright acidity in the form of blood oranges. The finish reveals the barrel spice in a very balanced manner showcasing notes of nutmeg. You’re left with a finish that ramps up the meatiness of this wine. Honestly, I prefer Vacqueyras to Chateauneuf du Pape for most occasions.
