A wine we brought back from a wine bistro called Boconariz in Santiago a couple of years ago, this is absolutely terrific. Beautiful, intense red-purple color, the tannins are sweet and rich with a great hint of camphor on the nose. Well-integrated tannins with a rich mouthfeel, that camphor component is a bit more amplified on the palate, but not overwhelming by any means. Lingering, balanced finish. Hard to gauge how much longer this will continue to develop, but my guess is that’s it’s peaking right now. Terrific example of a carmenere!

Number 15. Fruit bomb. Pronounced aromas of black fruits. Black currant jam. Chewy tannins, but with good structure. Full-body and off-dry on the palate.
Caballo Loco (Crazy Horse) is the nickname of 1 of Valdivieso’s previous winemakers Jorge Coderch, who created this wine. It doesn't have vintage but release number. This one of the top Chilean wines is created using a solera system - each edition has 50% of the current vintage and 50% of the previous. Blend: CabS, Malb, Carm, Merl, CabF, Carignan. Rating 3,9/5

Really interesting wine. A cabernet-driven blend, this wine is made as a blend of several vintages (and always including some of the first vintage in 1994). The result is a wine with unusual complexity - a combination of young and aged aromas that constantly changes in the glass. Never had anything quite like it. Very cool.
