Upper Reach
Western Australia Verdelho
Have you had a Swan Valley Verdelho recently? Gosh I miss just living just up the road from an abundance of this stuff. Plus I reckon 2019 Verdelho’s from the Swan Valley are going to be standouts. Especially if this Upper Reach one is anything to go by.
A big thanks to Renee at Upper Reach who gifted me this bottle of the Upper Reach 2019 Verdelho. I tried it at the cellar door on my recent trip to Perth and wow it sure impressed my taste buds. What a stunner!
If you haven’t visited Upper Reach Winery yet in the Swan Valley, you need to get there stat. They’re at the top of the Valley in Baskerville and make some seriously quality drops. I am also a big fan of their Chardonnay *surprise surprise* 😉
I was recently making a spaghetti with roasted cauliflower, capers and parmesan recipe from the latest Dish Magazine and thought this 2019 Verdelho would go down an absolute treat.
Here are our notes:
In the glass it’s like the days first rays of sunshine (credit to Mr Spittoon). On the nose it made us think of navel orange raro (Kiwi’s will know exactly what I mean), minerals and fresh tropical fruits. In the mouth it is dry and fruit-driven (passionfruit particularly stands out for me) with a wonderful oomph of flavour, beautiful acidity and there even seemed to be a very slight spiciness on the finish. YUM!
This wine was given to me direct from the winery as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy.
