Benchland Dry Creek Valley Syrah
Here was the head scratcher of the night, courtesy of @Andrew Heffley . I'm no Syrah expert, but I'm beginning to be more curious about them. Upon opening, this wine's nose was basically giving us the finger saying not even close to ready. Very leathery. Others mentioned how much of a barnyard smell it had. I got zero fruit notes at first. We all revisited it three hours later and felt like it was just beginning to open...tart blackberries and pepper showed up. This Syrah will undoubtedly age for many years to come. Would be very curious to see how a 2007 is tasting right now in comparison.
